Recent academic research has shown that most people have little understanding of the amount of water that they consume on a daily basis, typically underestimating their perceptions of water use by as much as 100%. Interestingly, when asked what the most effective thing they can do to save water, most survey respondents mention curtailment activities over efficiency measures.

This fascinating discussion between WaterSmart and Dr. Shahzeen Attari of the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) reviews the results of her research and discusses the implications that these behavioral trends have for water-use efficiency programs.
