Palo Alto Using WaterSmart to Drive Conservation Among Residents
City of Palo Alto selects WaterSmart Software to improve water-use efficiency, engage customers, and manage current and future water costs.
WaterSmart® Software, the leading behavioral water efficiency company that helps water utilities and their customers conserve water and save money, today announced the City of Palo Alto as its newest customer. Under the terms of the program, residents living in single-family homes are now receiving WaterSmart’s quarterly Home Water Reports that compare their water use to homes of similar size and make targeted recommendations for how those homes could conserve. The program is administered in partnership with Opower, which is helping Palo Alto residents reduce their electricity usage.
“The residents of Palo Alto have led the nation in innovation for decades, and we are extremely proud to help them move towards a water efficient way of life with our own innovation,” said Peter Yolles, Founder and CEO of WaterSmart. “With the recent addition of Palo Alto and other communities, WaterSmart has solidified its position as the most widely adopted customer engagement and conservation platform in the water industry.”
In additional to receiving Home Water Reports, Palo Alto residents also will be able to log on to WaterSmart’s WaterInsight Portal through any web browser and mobile device. There, they can view more detailed water use history and choose relevant water efficiency tips. Internally, City of Palo Alto Utilities staff can access customer data, track water savings citywide, and run analytics in WaterSmart’s Water Efficiency Dashboard.
“This program is part of the ongoing partnership with our customers to improve efficiency, reduce waste and manage current and future water and energy costs,” said Tom Auzenne, Utilities Assistant Director, City of Palo Alto. “Working together, we can make a vital contribution to sustainability, now and for future generations.”
