WaterSmart Software Participates in Research Pilot Study With EBMUD to Promote Conservation Services
10,000 East Bay Households Participating in WaterSmart’s Home Water Report Pilot Study
SAN FRANCISCO — WaterSmart Software, a water efficiency solutions company that helps utilities educate their customers on ways to conserve water, today announced a one-year pilot study with the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) to advance residential water use efficiency.
“WaterSmart’s Home Water Reports can drive down demand in a matter of months,” said Peter Yolles, CEO of WaterSmart. “Our scalable solution and simple integration make it easy for utilities of any size to start saving water right away.”
In the East Bay MUD pilot study, WaterSmart will provide participants with bi-monthly Home Water Reports designed to encourage consumers to reduce water use. Participants include over 10,000 households located throughout EBMUD’s service area. WaterSmart’s print or email Home Water Reports display a household’s water use, compare their consumption to similar-sized neighbors, and provide water-saving recommendations. Residents can also register online at WaterSmart’s Consumer Portal to view more detailed water use history and browse the full list of rebate programs and water efficiency tips. Internally, utility staff can access customer data, reports and analytics in WaterSmart’s Water Efficiency Dashboard.
The California Water Foundation, which is a funding partner for the pilot program, plans to conduct an independent evaluation of the pilot study to inform water agencies throughout California of the potential impacts and benefits of this approach.
WaterSmart’s demand reduction strategies are field-proven. The Company recently announced the results of a pilot program in Sonoma County, California, in which households reduced their water consumption by 5% in just six months. In the pilot program, WaterSmart also generated a three-fold increase in conservation program participation.
